By Raymond Bonner: El Salvador Considers Amnesty for Those Accused of Crimes During Its Civil War
Cristosal is currently prosecuting two cases of crimes committed during the Salvadoran armed conflict, the massacre of El Mozote and El Calabozo. Progress made concerning these cases is currently under threat from a renewed attempt to create a blanket amnesty in the Legislative Assembly.
Raymond Bonner, one of the reporters who broke the story of El Mozote internationally, wrote an article for ProPublica on the new proposed law that would protect those responsible for crimes committed during the armed conflict. In it he writes that, “Today, some of the main supporters of the latest possible amnesty legislation have resumes tainted by accusations of human rights abuses during the war.”
