Thanksgiving for Bequest from the Rev. Juan Maria Acosta
Cristosal recently received a bequest from the Rev. Juan Maria Acosta, who passed away in 2016. We are very grateful for his gift, which will help to support our work with families who have been displaced by violence.
Born to a farming family in La Colonia Morelos in Sonora, México, in 1942, Fr. Juan was a priest in the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego, where he served in a number of roles, including as Missioner for Hispanic Ministries and as Rector of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in National City. He also helped develop the Spanish-speaking Cursillo community in San Diego.
Fr. Juan served on Cristosal’s board of directors for many years and was a member of the board that hired Noah Bullock as our executive director as Cristosal grew into a regional human rights organization. Says Noah, “Fr. Juan was a kind and thoughtful presence on our board, helping to guide Cristosal through times of significant growth and transition.
"I learned much from him and will forever be grateful for all that he contributed to Cristosal’s mission.”
We were deeply honored by Fr. Juan’s gift, the first bequest that Cristosal has received. If you would like to include Cristosal in your own estate plans and have questions about how to do so, please be in touch with Joan Brown, Cristosal’s Resource Development Coordinator.
