Fernanda Cañas

"The more I've studied, the more I've felt compelled to act. When you understand the issues, there's no way you can not do something."

Fernanda joined Cristosal to put her extensive human rights’ education into practice. In 2016 she completed her Master’s in Gender Studies at the Universidad de Oviedo in Spain. Her experience educating Salvadoran children on environmental issues inspired her to focus her dissertation on the rights of minors. While researching the different forms of gender-based violence children face, she discovered Cristosal’s work in Central America. She views her position as the Assistant to the Executive Director as an opportunity to advocate for human rights, especially for children displaced by violence. Fluent in Spanish, French and English, and with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Translation from the Université Jean Moulin in France, Fernanda brings an impressive skill set to the international arena of human rights.
